Mark Alberts is an independent consulting actuary working primarily in life insurance, annuity and supplemental health practice areas for life insurers and insurance regulators. His consulting work relates to liability modeling and valuation, as well as insurance company risk management. He has served on a number of research and section committees for the Society of Actuaries and is former chair of its Research Executive Committee and Climate and Environmental Sustainability Research Committee. Mark is also a researcher whose research interests include growth, interest rates and the intersection of actuarial practice and environmental issues.
Senior Managing Director, Employees’ Retirement System of Texas
Mr. Shantz currently serves as a Senior Managing Director and the Director of Fixed Income for the $34+ billion Employee Retirement System of Texas, restructuring a core+ fixed income program into separate interest rate & below investment grade credit focused portfolios. Prior to ERS, Mr. Shantz served as a Managing Director for the Lockheed Martin Investment Management Company, where he performed a similar transformation. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst and is recognized for innovative use of ETFs by institutional fixed income investors.

Kashif Siddiqui, CFA, is the Chief Investment Officer at CRICO who has over 20 years of Investment and Financial Management experience working in multinational firms, including MetLife and Marsh & McLennan. In financial management, Mr. Siddiqui has been involved in managing foreign exchange risk, cash flows, investment valuations, and funding of operating entities.

He is a member of several portfolio management teams, primarily focused on UScredit investing in core, core plus, global aggregate, global aggregate opportunistic and globalcredit strategies.Henry joined MFS in 2019 in his current role. He previously served as a multisector and core plusportfolio manager with Eaton Vance for five years, with prior responsibilities as a credit analystand team leader. Before that, he worked as a credit research analyst at Merganser CapitalManagement and served in various trading and research roles with Emerson InvestmentManagement. He started his career in the financial services industry in 2001.Henry earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from Trinity College and a Master ofBusiness Administration degree from the Boston College Carroll School of Management. Gene Ma is the Head of China Research at IIF (Institute of International Finance). At this capacity, Gene maintains regular contacts with Chinese financial institutions and policy makers. Prior to IIF, Gene was a Director of China economics and strategy at Tudor Investment; Managing Director and China economist at ISI Group (Now Evercore ISI); President and chief economist of the CEBM Group (now owned by Caixin); and chief macro analyst at Citic Securities (Beijing). Gene graduated from Peking Univ. and Cornell Univ.

Damien joined Finisterre in September 2015 as a Portfolio Manager and Chief Investment Officer for the Total Return Fund Strategy. Prior to joining Finisterre, he was the Global Head of Emerging Markets Fixed Income at AXA Investment Managers from 2010 to 2015, overseeing $7bn in EM FI assets and leading the EM team located in Paris, London and Hong Kong. From 2007 to 2010, Damien was Head of Sovereign & Emerging Markets Proprietary Trading at Dexia Credit Local in Paris, where he was responsible for two €3bn relative value trading books, in EM hard and local currency assets. Damien was Portfolio Manager and Head of Emerging Markets at CCR Gestion, Commerzbank Group in Paris from 2005 to 2007. From 1996 to 2005, Damien was a Senior Fund Manager, Deputy Head of Alternative EM Funds at Barep Asset Management in Paris, the alternative asset manager of Societe Generale. He started his career in Hong Kong as an Asian Equity Fund Manager at Euro Pacific Advisers Ltd from 1993 to 1996, and a Financial Analyst, China Desk at Societe Generale Hong Kong Branch from 1992 to 1993. Damien graduated from EDHEC School of Business Administration in Lille, France (1991) and is also a CFA charterholder.
Charles Van Vleet
Chief Investment Officer, Textron
Charles Van Vleet is Assistant Treasurer and Chief Investment Officer of Pension Investments at Textron Inc., Providence RI. Together with an investment team of four, Charles has Trustee oversight of $16.6BN in defined benefit and defined contribution assets for Textron’s U.S., Canada and UK Plans providing retirement security for over 65,00 current and past employees. The Textron retirement Plans are well funded with broadly diversified investments including private equity, hedge funds, real estate, fixed income, and public equity. In addition to investment oversight, Charles serves as a Member of Textron’s Investment Committee, Investment Management group, Trustee and Chair of Textron’s UK Plans. Prior to Textron, Charles spent 8 years as Director, Pension Investments at United Technologies in Hartford CT. Prior to pension investment Charles spent 25 years in the asset management divisions of Credit Suisse, Putnam Investments, Alliance Capital, Brown Brothers Harriman, and Nomura Securities. At different times -living and working in New York, London, and Tokyo- he has had the opportunity to manage ‘40 Act mutual funds, high net worth, endowment, public pension and corporate pension funds. Charles holds bachelors’ degrees in Economics and Political Science from UC Berkeley, Berkeley CA, and an MBA from the University of CT (UCONN) in Storrs, CT. Charles serves on the investment advisory board for the Lifespan endowment, Rhode Island's largest nonprofit health care system. In addition, he serves on the advisory board for Rhode Island’s Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), advisory committee for the Washington DC based, Managed Fund Association (MFA), and Defined Contribution Alternatives Association (DCALTA).

Abid Kazmi is Vice President responsible for Pricing & Analytics at RBC Insurance; his team prices all of RBC’s Canadian, individual and group, life and health products. Previous to this role he was head of investment and market risk at RBCI, and in charge of investment strategy. He has over 15 years of experience managing assets that support insurance products. He is a fully qualified actuary, and an active member of both the SOA and CIA where he currently participates in the CIA “Elections Committee”, “Investments Practice”, “Committee on Risk Management and Capital Requirements” and “Continuing Education Committee”. Abid is also co-chair of RBCI’s Diversity and Inclusion Council.
